Question
Working with Claude, I found a couple easy-to-address runtime performance issues in the source code of rslrmf and
xrtraytrace.
Please see the detailed reports and patch packages attached to this email.
These changes keep the code semantics/logic the same, but remove unnecessary/wasted operations and speed up the
execution by about a factor of 5 (rslrmf) and 4 (xrtraytrace). Using the GK Per data as an example, the output files
from the commands were confirmed to be identical before/after the patch. xrtraytrace execution for the GK Per
observation sped up from 1376 sec to 363 sec on my environment (environment details are also described in the README
files).
The READMEs also mention some additional optimization ideas. In the case of rslrmf, there were some correctness-related
concerns which might warrant a closer inspection by the Resolve software team.
Also, the AH_DEBUG fix in the xrtraytrace patch is currently applied locally in the xrtraytrace code, but this should
be ideally applied to the original AH_DEBUG macro definition, so that all the other programs using this macro will
benefit from the same change to reduce wasted (unused) string construction in the hot loops.

Answer
Thank you very much for your comprehensive evaluation of, and report on, the rslrmf and xrtraytrace FTOOL source code. We have read your report and tested some of your main suggestions, confirming the magnitude of the increases in speed on our own systems. We are now in the process of prioritizing and planning implementation, testing and release of revisions to the code. In addition, we confirmed each of the RMF code bugs and intend to fix those in the next release as well.
